The letter is inscribed "My dear Miss Edna, I would indeed be a wooden man if I did not feel a thrill of gladness and appreciation to receive your sweet letter. Both the letter and envelope have an imprinted coat of arms and the words "The Rex Arms - Los Angeles" printed below.The envelope in addressed to "Miss Edna Catherine Cudahy - Hotel Maryland - Pasadena, Calif". This hand written letter includes an envelope also in Hart's hand and is postmarked "June 25, 1917". A fantastic piece of Hollywood history from one of the greats of the early film era. MacMurray (1907-91) was a solid leading man of countless Westerns and dramas of the 1930s and '40s, best known for later comedies such as "The Shaggy Dog" and "The Absent Minded Professor" and the television series "My Three Sons." BAL 6256. Tipped opposite on front pastedown is MacMurray's original transmittal envelope (cancelled in Los Angeles on 14 July 1980) with his inkstamped name/address at upper left. This copy bears a choice autograph addition related to the popular 1936 film versionl: Tipped to front flyleaf is a fine, heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed boldly at center by Fred MacMurray (who plays lead character Jack Hale) in his favored teal blue fineline, and he dates it "1980" at upper right. A tight and quite nice early printing of this romantic Western, a huge bestseller in 19 and subject of stage and films. Tissue-guarded frontispiece, 7 full-page called-for plates. Red cloth with gilt lettering and decoration.
